Terms of service

Last updated 5 July 2026

These terms set out the rules for using Matchwork as a member or expert, including subscriptions, cancellation, and the limits of our role as an introduction service.

Template — pending legal review. This is standard boilerplate provided for the beta so the platform is usable end-to-end. It is not yet a substitute for tailored legal advice and will be replaced with solicitor-approved copy before paid launch.

1. Who we are

The Matchwork platform is operated by Matchwork Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17305981). Registered office: 82a James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Bury St. Edmunds, England, IP28 7DE. You can contact us at contact@thematchwork.com.

2. Acceptance of these terms

These terms govern your access to and use of the Matchwork platform. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you are using the platform on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation.

3. Eligibility and accounts

Access is invitation- and vetting-based. We may approve or decline any application at our discretion. You must provide accurate information, keep your login credentials secure, and are responsible for activity on your account. You must be at least 18 years old.

4. The service: what Matchwork is and is not

Matchwork is a directory and introduction service. We help members discover and contact vetted experts. We are not a party to any engagement, contract, or advice that results from an introduction, and we do not provide legal, financial, tax, or other professional advice ourselves.

Experts are independent professionals. Any services they provide are governed by their own terms and engagement letters, directly between the expert and the member.

5. Member obligations

  • Use the directory only to find and contact experts for genuine professional purposes.
  • Do not misuse contact channels (no spam, harassment, or bulk solicitation).
  • Do not attempt to circumvent platform features, rate limits, or security.
  • Carry out your own due diligence before engaging any expert.

6. Expert obligations

  • Provide accurate, current profile information and hold any qualifications or regulatory authorisations you state or imply.
  • Respond to member enquiries professionally and lawfully.
  • Keep your profile free of direct contact details — member contact runs through the platform.
  • Comply with all laws and professional rules applicable to your services.

7. Subscriptions, fees and cancellation

Membership and expert listings are offered on a subscription basis. Fees, billing frequency, and any trial terms are shown at sign-up. Payments are processed by our payment processor (Stripe).

You can cancel from your account at any time. Member cancellations take effect at the end of the current paid period; you keep access until then and are not charged again. Experts may remove their listing and cancel from their account settings. Except where required by law, fees already paid are non-refundable.

Where you add a payment method before billing begins (for example during a free period), nothing is charged until the start date we have told you, and we will email you before your first payment.

We may change subscription prices. Any price increase will be notified to you by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and it will never apply within a period you have already paid for. If you do not accept the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect and you will not be charged the increased amount.

During the beta, billing may be disabled and access may be provided free of charge. We will give notice before charging begins.

8. Your right to cancel (consumers)

If you subscribe as a consumer, you have a statutory right to cancel your subscription within 14 days of the day you sign up, without giving a reason, and receive a refund. By signing up you ask us to start providing the service straight away; if you cancel within the 14 days, we may deduct a proportionate amount for the period you had access before cancelling, and refund the rest.

The same 14-day right applies each time a free trial converts to a paid subscription. To cancel, use your account page or email contact@thematchwork.com with a clear statement that you wish to cancel. This right is in addition to, and does not limit, your ability to cancel at any time as described above.

9. Intellectual property

The platform, its design, and its content (excluding expert-supplied profile content) are owned by Matchwork or its licensors. Experts grant Matchwork a licence to display their submitted profile content for the purpose of operating the directory. You may not copy, scrape, or redistribute platform content without permission.

10. Acceptable use

You must not use the platform to break the law, infringe others’ rights, upload harmful or unlawful content, harvest data, or interfere with the platform’s operation or security. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.

11. Disclaimers

The platform is provided "as is" and "as available". While we vet experts, we do not guarantee the accuracy of any profile, the quality or outcome of any engagement, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing on the platform constitutes professional advice from Matchwork.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Matchwork is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for any loss arising from your engagement with an expert. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud). Subject to that, our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

13. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms, if required by law, or to protect the platform or its users. On termination, your right to use the service ends; provisions that by their nature should survive will continue to apply.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes, and continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory local consumer law provides otherwise.
